Freedom Federal Credit Union was chartered in 1952. Acting on an Organization Certificate filed by ten charter members, the Rocky Mount ACL Federal Credit Union was established on December 8, 1952 by the Bureau of Federal Credit Unions, a division of the Social Security Administration. The original field of membership was primarily "Employees of the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad Company who work in or have headquarters in Nash and Edgecombe Counties, North Carolina..."
Many things have changed over the years. Five name changes later, the Rocky Mount ACL Federal Credit Union is now Freedom Federal Credit Union. Freedom's headquarters relocated three times prior to moving to our present North Wesleyan Boulevard address in Rocky Mount.
The ten chartering members have grown to over 14,000 members. Rather than serving the employees of a single division of one company, Freedom now serves the employees of over 120 different sponsoring companies ... not to mention all those who live or work in the City of Rocky Mount and surrounding areas. Freedom has grown from a single deposit account service package into a full-service, multi-branch financial institution ... professionally staffed and offering leading edge products. And the Bureau of Federal Credit Unions is now the National Credit Union Administration.
And in 2006 - we took another leap forward - with a new branch and headquarters in Rocky Mount. This new state-of-the art facility allows Freedom to serve a larger part of the Rocky Mount region- but also allows Freedom to operate more efficiently as a whole. Our branch lobby sports big-screen TVs and a coffee bar - and our staff provides friendly, world-class service with the products and services you've come to expect.
But one thing has not changed... Freedom's commitment to our members and to the credit union philosophy. Freedom Federal Credit Union will always place the welfare of our MEMBERS above all other considerations. We will serve our MEMBERS by adhering to the "Not for Profit, Not for Charity, but for Service" principle. We will honor the traditional values of respect for the individual, fiscal responsibility and commitment to service. By doing so, we will strive to make our MEMBERS' lives better.
