From our humble beginnings in 1914 as a small rural one-office bank with assets of $12,500 in Lucama, North Carolina, The Heritage Bank has grown to over $250 million in assets with fifteen office locations in Wilson, Johnston, Wayne, Nash, and Edgecombe Counties, providing community banking services to eastern North Carolina.
Our history highlights our commitment to the communities we serve. Seth Elonza High served as Bank President from 1940 - 1956 and also served as Chairman of the Wilson County Board of Education, Chairman of the Wilson County Democratic Executive Committee, and Superintendent of the Lucama Methodist Sunday School. Through the years our bank employees have actively participated in numerous community endeavors.
Robert Matthews, Retired Regional Vice President, respected in the community for his honesty and integrity, serves as Treasurer of the Bailey Fire Department, a role he has been in for more than twenty years. Mr. Matthews has been active in Nash County development by serving on the Planning Board and Economic Development Committee. He also gives his time to deliver Meals on Wheels.
Forest Hills Branch Manager Joseph Evans takes pride in partnering with the community. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce and the Arts Council. He is active in the United Way and charity fund-raising for St. Jude's Children's Hospital and Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Senior Business Development Officer, Milo Gibbs, shares his talents in all areas of civic and religious life in the Wilson community. He is an Elder of Wilson's First Presbyterian Church where he has also served on the Board of Deacons and as a Senior High Sunday School Teacher. As a Scoutmaster, he has produced seven Eagle Scouts. He is the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award presented by the East Carolina Council of the Boy Scouts of America, the highest award given by the Council to a volunteer. Mr. Gibbs' other community service is almost too numerous to mention. He has served on the Board of Directors of the United Way of Wilson, Wilson Chorale, Wilson Rotary Club, Salvation Army, and Wilson County Chamber of Commerce. He has served as President of the Rotary Club, American Cancer Society and Barton College Friends of the Library Board. He has been and is instrumental in raising funds for the Wilson Tennis Foundation's Cystic Fibrosis Tournament each year.
