Yadkin Valley Bank and Trust Company is a North Carolina state chartered bank, headquartered in Elkin, North Carolina. The Bank's primary business is providing general banking services for portions of North Carolina. The Bank and Trust Company is now serving the counties of Surry, Wilkes, Yadkin, Ashe, Forsyth, Iredell, North Mecklenburg, Watauga, Avery, Durham, Orange and Granville.
The Bank opened for business in Elkin (Surry County) on October 16, 1968 and opened a North Elkin office in 1989. The Yadkin County offices were opened in Jonesville in 1971, East Bend in 1997, and Yadkinville in 2004. Offices were opened in Wilkes County in 1984 in North Wilkesboro and Wilkesboro in 1991. The Ashe County offices were opened in Jefferson in 1986 and West Jefferson in 1988. The Mt. Jefferson office in West Jefferson (formerly a High Country Bank branch) was converted to a Yadkin Valley Bank branch in 2004. In April 2007, the bank opened its fist branch in Pfafftown, NC. The represented the bank's first forray into Forsyth county. The North Elkin, East Bend, Yadkinville, Jefferson, Mt. Jefferson and Pfafftown offices have ATMs on site. The Bank has stand-alone ATMs in Jonesville, Wilkesboro and Millers Creek, North Carolina.
The Bank's management and employees are active leaders in our communities, serving as elected officials and in many volunteer public service activities. The Bank has generously supported libraries, rescue squads and senior center projects in our market area as well as scholarships and emergency relief efforts.
Customer service at The Bank seeks to combine personal relationships with a significant investment in technology. Improving service to our customers by making information available faster, more efficient and in a user friendly format lets us be a smarter community bank. Internet banking, telephone banking and image check processing are all services that enhance rather than conflict with this philosophy.
On July 31, 2002, The Bank and Trust Company purchased Piedmont Bank. Piedmont Bank received approval from the North Carolina State Banking Commission in January 1997 and opened its first branch at 127 North Cross Lane in Statesville, North Carolina on July 1, 1997. In June of 1998, Piedmont Bank opened its first branch in Mooresville, North Carolina. The headquarters were relocated to 325 East Front Street from North Cross Lane in September of 1998. The first Mooresville office moved into its current facility in July 1999. The Bank purchased three offices from First Charter in July 2000. These locations in Cornelius, Huntersville and Mooresville were renovated, equipped, staffed and opened in mid October of 2001. In September 2005, a third branch in Mooresville opened on Medical Park Road. The most recent branch opening occurred in January 2006 at 3475 East Broad Street in Statesville. All these branches are now operating as Piedmont Bank, A Division of Yadkin Valley Bank and Trust Company. In January 2001, Loan Operations, Mortgage, Accounting and Insurance relocated to additional space on East Front Street. An older home at 120 S Elm Street was renovated in 2002 and now occupied by Branch Administration, Human Resources, the Marketing Director, and the Corporate Secretary.
In December 2003, Yadkin Valley Bank and Trust Company purchased High Country Bank. The merger was effective January 1, 2004. High Country Bank opened in the fall of 1998 with a branch in a temporary facility at New Market Centre in Boone, NC. High Country Bank provided customers with the personal service many thought had been lost forever. In just four and a half years, High Country Bank experienced tremendous growth with three permanent locations in Boone, NC along with locations in Foscoe and West Jefferson, NC. The four Boone branches, including the branch inside Foscoe Pharmacy, are now operating as High Country Bank, A Division of Yadkin Valley Bank and Trust Company. The Mt. Jefferson branch in West Jefferson, NC is now operating as a branch of Yadkin Valley Bank. In August 2005, a new High Country Bank branch opened in Linville, NC located in Avery county.
In June 2007, Yadkin Valley Bank and Trust Company purchased Cardinal State Bank located in Durham, North Carolina. The merger was effective March 31, 2008. Cardinal State Bank opened in June 2001 and currently has five (5) full service branches operating as Cardinal State Bank, A Division of Yadkin Valley Bank and Trust Company and serving Durham, Orange, and Granville counties.
In September of 2008, Yadkin Valley Bank and Trust Company announced their proposed purchase of American Community Bank located in Monroe, North Carolina. The merger was effective, April 17, 2009. The addition of American Community Bank adds thirteen (13) full service branches operating as American Community Bank, A Division of Yadkin Valley Bank and Trust Company and serving Union and Mecklenburg counties in NC and York and Cherokee counties in SC.
As of July 31, 2009, the The Bank had over $2.10 billion in assets. This dynamic financial institution is well capitalized and poised to grow rapidly over the next few years. The Bank will seek to become the premier financial institution in each market it serves.
